Saving from another app
Open the share sheet, scroll left through the apps row, tap More…, then enable Bento. Drag it to the top so it's always one tap away.
Search isn't finding a screenshot
OCR runs in the background after a save. Pull-to-refresh the inbox to nudge the queue. Very recent saves can take a moment on older devices.
iCloud sync not catching up
Check Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → iCloud Drive → Bento is on, that you have iCloud storage available, and that all devices are signed in to the same Apple ID. Then quit and reopen Bento.
Common questions
I can't find an item I know I saved
Open Search and try a few words you remember from inside the item — the title, a phrase, even text inside a screenshot (OCR works on those). Check the Archive and Trash tabs in case it was tucked away. If a compartment is locked, items inside it won't appear in normal search until you unlock it.
How do I export my data?
Open Settings → Export. You can export a single item, a folder, or your entire library as a zip with original files plus a JSON manifest. There's also per-item share with multiple formats (Card, Link, Text, PDF, original file).
How do I cancel my Bento+ subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple. On your iPhone, go to Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Bento+, then tap Cancel Subscription. Your premium features stay active until the end of the current billing period.
How do Lock and Hide differ?
Lock keeps a compartment visible in your folders but gates it behind Face ID. Hide removes the items completely from inbox, search, and widgets. Reveal hidden items by pulling down on the Folders screen (or only via Settings, depending on your privacy mode).
I deleted something by accident
Open Trash. Items live there for 30 days before being permanently removed. Tap an item, then Restore. If you just deleted it, look for the Undo toast at the bottom of the screen.
Bento is asking for a permission. Should I allow it?
Bento only asks for what's needed to perform the action you triggered: Photos to import images, Camera to scan or photograph, Microphone to record voice memos, Location to save a place, Notifications for reminders or shared activity. You can change any of these later in iOS Settings → Bento.
I lost access to a locked compartment
If Face ID stops recognizing you and your passcode fallback isn't working, open Settings → Private & Locked → Recovery and follow the steps. Because Bento is local-first, we can't reset a passcode on our end — recovery is via iOS.
My subscription says expired but I still have time on my plan
Sign out and back into the App Store, then open Bento and tap Restore Purchases in Settings → Subscription. If that doesn't work, email us with the date and rough time of the original purchase.
How do I delete my account?
Bento doesn't have an account. To erase everything Bento knows about you, delete the app from your device. If iCloud sync was on, also remove Bento data via Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Storage → Bento → Delete.

Status & known issues
Bento is local-first, so there is no central server to "go down" — your library is always available. We post any known issues with the latest App Store release on this page when they exist. Currently: none reported.
